Maryport Dragons | Muay Thai

Located on the picturesque west coast of Cumbria is the renowned Maryport Dragons.

Led by the esteemed Tommy Collins, a seasoned veteran with over 25 years of experience in this ancient martial art, this establishment is the ideal destination to delve into the secrets of Thai Boxing.Originating centuries ago, Muay Thai emerged as a fierce form of close-combat, utilizing the entire body as a lethal weapon. Its significance transcends beyond a mere sport, as it holds a deep-rooted place in Thai culture. But fear not, you need not venture to Asia to master this highly skilled discipline.

With the privilege of capturing one of Tommy’s training sessions, I couldn't help but be captivated by the sheer passion and dedication that exuded from every movement. As a fitness photography enthusiast, there is something truly magical about freezing these remarkable moments in time, striving to capture their authenticity and rawness. For this particular shoot, I opted for a combination of the 24mm and 85mm lenses, a departure from my usual go-to choice, the 35mm. The 24mm lens granted me the ability to encompass not only the subject's physicality but also their surroundings, creating a truly immersive environmental portrait.

Equipped with the Sony A7C with the 85mm 1.8 lens, and the A7iv with the 24mm 1.2 GM lens, I was able to capture every fleeting moment with utmost precision and artistry. To further enhance the visual impact, I relied on the reliable Godox V1 Flash, skillfully manipulating the lighting to accentuate the intensity of each movement. At West Lakes Photography Ltd I understand the power of visual storytelling, and it was an absolute pleasure to witness the embodiment of this through the dynamic world of Muay Thai at Maryport Dragons.
